Week 62- I Could Not Ask For More!

Hello out there!!
This week was another fantastic week here in Carlisle. Things are going so well with training and we are working hard to find people to teach. The weather was nice and warm at the beginning of the week in the 50s and then by the weekend it was snowing. I woke up to snow on what was suppose to be the first day of spring… not so much. Luckily it wasn’t bad snow. It only stuck to the grass and plants not the streets.
So many exciting things happened this week. Heavenly Father blesses us everyday as we are out here working. We have picked up three new investigators this week and we have three people set with baptismal dates in may and a less-active who is coming back into activity!!
We saw Calvin and Christina twice this week and they are doing so good! Christina told us in our lesson on Friday that she believes the things we are teaching them. When she hears us talk she just feels good about everything we are saying. At the beginning of my mission this kind of bothered me that people said they believed what I was saying was true without even praying about it. But as I have studied the Book of Mormon I have come to find that those who can believe on the words of others are extremely blessed and gifted. The other day I was reading in 3 Nephi 12: 2 which says:
2 And again, more blessed are they who shall believe in your words because that ye shall testify that ye have seen me, and that ye know that I am. Yea, blessed are they who shall believe in your words, and come down into the depths of humility and be baptized, for they shall be visited with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins.
Christina has enough faith and is open that the spirit can immediately testify to her that these things are true. That is something I strive to be able to do in my life, to be more receptive to the Spirit and discern truth from falsehoods. They are progressing well towards their baptismal date on May 2nd.
We picked up two new investigators named Becky and Garry. They are an older couple who were referred to us from a nonmember that is being taught by missionaries in Chambersburg. We tried to see them on Wednesday and they said they weren’t feeling well and to come back on Saturday. We came back on Saturday and Becky welcomed us right in even before she knew who we were and what our names were. We sat down and she got right into to telling us about her life and how she has come to know God. Garry wasn’t in there at first because he didn’t want to be a bother to us. Luckily he came back inside and we asked him to join us. He did πŸ™‚ We had a great lesson with them about the Book of Mormon. Becky told us that she feels that the Mormons are the ones who have it right and she believes the things we believe as a Church. They are really interested to learn more about what we believe.
We had interviews with President Johnson this week. It is always nice to see him and Sister Johnson. They came and visited our district and we will see them this at Zone Conference too. I can’t imagine what it is like to be a mission president and wife, but I do know that they are so busy everyday yet they take the time out to make sure that every single one of us is doing ok. Interviews are always great to talk with President and receive his insight and encouragement. He asked us to tell him two spiritual gifts that we have. I told him that one of mine was the gift of communication, being able to have conversations with complete strangers or anyone with no problems. I told him my mom was the same way. She could talk to a complete stranger at the grocery store and be best friends with them by the time she leaves. Oh and Mom he told me to tell you thank you for being that example for me and teaching how to use that gift πŸ™‚
We are starting to make headway with Christine and Chris. When we first went over they would always have the tv blasting even if no one was watching it. We would always have to ask them to turn it down or if bad music was playing we would ask them to turn it off. Now when we go over and the tv is on Chris will automatically turn it off without us asking. WE went over to help do some cleaning and Christine came in and ask what kind of music we were allowed to listen to so she could look it up on her phone and play it. These are small changes, but they are changes! Chris has farther to go in his conversion, but he is coming along. Christine is doing well with reading and praying. We just need to get her and the kids to church.
We have a less-active named Somer that we have been trying to work with since I got here and we haven’t had much success until this week. Her son Braydan turned nine last Sunday. She really wants him to be baptized and herself come back into activity. This week we went over to start teaching Braydan the lessons so that he can be prepared for baptism. We taught the Restoration really simple for him, but it was good for Somer too. WE committed them to come to church and Braydan to be baptized on May 30th. We tried to get them to Church last week and it didn’t work, but this week it did!!! WE called Somer at 11 yesterday and she was up and getting ready to go, Braydan too. We saved them seats at Church but then sacrament started. I was disappointed because they weren’t there. 15 minutes passed and then I hear commotion to the side of me. It was Somer and Braydan!!! I was so excited and I thanked Heavenly Father that they were there. It was a good thing they were there too because Somer had a break through. When sacrament meeting was over she was bawling! She was overwhelmed with the Spirit. She told us that everything she heard was exactly what she needed to hear. SHe felt like they were speaking to her. Somer told us that she hadn’t driven her car in months. She doesn’t know why she became afraid to drive, but all she knew what they she needed to come to church. She prayed all morning and the whole drive to church that she would have the strength. While driving she thought so many times should I pull over and go back, but she kept on driving. I told her that Heavenly Father blessed her for exercising her faith. Getting into the car took faith, starting the car took faith, and to keep driving took faith. She knows that she needs to come back to church and she wants to get to the temple. It was amazing to see how the spirit was working with her. She wants to do good in her life she just didn’t know how. She asked for a Priesthood blessing. Braydan came and sat in too. In the blessing she was told that one day she will go to the House of the Lord! I was so excited. The Brother giving her a blessing didn’t even know that was a desire of hers!! After the blessing Braydan immediately said, “I really need to get baptized.” I was shocked and asked him why he thought that. He explained that he wanted to have the Spirit. It was the cutest most amazing thing ever. I am so excited for Braydan and Somer they are both extremely spiritual people and I know they are going to be strong.
There are so many moments the Heavenly Father gives me to be able to stay strong and keeping moving on. Moments like with Somer help my faith grow and give me the desire to keep sharing the gospel.
I hope you all have a fantastic week! I love yinz so much πŸ™‚
