Week Three!

Heyo!

How yins doing? This week in Pittsburgh has been awesome. We have had tons of snow this week and it is suppose to get pretty cold tomorrow, like in the negatives… All the Pittsburgers ask me where I’m from and I tell them Southern California and they just laugh and say you are definitely out of your element haha. This is definitely the most snow I have seen in my life, but I think I’m handling it pretty well. The people here are called Pittsburgers and they speak Pittsburgese. It’s a real thing. The say yins (y’all), an’that (and that), car-nay-gie (carnegie), and some others that I can’t think of right now. But there are tons of different people here very diverse. Lots and lots and lots of churches. I mean I thought there were a lot in Utah, but no. Those were all the same kind of church. Here there is a different denomination on every corner. Some are even right across the street for one another! I meet interesting people on the bus everyday. It’s awesome!
We had some really good lessons this week. I love when you are in a lesson and you know that both you and the investigator are feeling the spirit. Something that I have really come to know is that the spirit really does tell you what the investigator needs. Before coming out here I was really worried about knowing what to say, how to say, when to say, etc. I was worried that I would blank and not know what to say when it came time, but silly me I’m not the one teaching, the spirit is. I have learned that if I prepare myself and go to a lesson and invite the spirit, as I listen to the spirit I will know exactly what to say. We should all strive to have the spirit with us. We need to make sure that we are living our lives righteously so that we can have him as a constant companion. We receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. It is a gift given from God that we may have the Holy Ghost with us at all times. It is something that I strive for everyday because I know that I cannot do the Lord’s work without the Holy Ghost.

The members in the ward here are great. They are all willing to come to lessons and fellowship our investigators. A lot of the couples here have both served missions which is pretty cool. The lady that sent you the picture is Sister Cook and she is seriously. Their family is great and takes really good care of us. Both her and her husband served so they know what we need as missionaries.
One lesson that we had this week was really awesome. It is someone that has been taking the discussions for a while. He asked us to bring converts to the lessons so we do. Well this week we brought a convert who has an amazing story and an amazing testimony. The spirit was so strong during the lesson and the convert was totally helping our investigator understand things. Giving him analogies that really applied to him. The whole lesson was directed by the spirit. We went in planning to teach him about the priesthood and baptism, but we ended up talking about faith in finding answers instead of looking for signs. We were able to help our investigator see the difference and understand how he can get an answer to his question about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and Joesph Smith. We are making tons of progress with him.

We have two other investigators, a mother and son. The mother had a really amazing experience with fasting a prayer this week. She had a member friend that said she would fast for her and her job interview. Our investigator C decided that if someone could fast for her then she should fast for herself too. So she did! She said that everything that day could have not gone better. Everything fell into place and during her interview she said words came out of her mouth that she knew was from the spirit. She said that she knew God was helping her and blessing her for fasting. I know this to be true when we fast with a purpose and turn to the Lord he will bless us. He loves us and he really wants to help each and everyone of us. We just have to turn to him.

My favorite thing to do in lessons is to tell the Joseph Smith story and to quote the first vision. The spirit is always so strong. We were in a lesson with another investigator named T. Last week I told you we tracted into her. We met with her again this week and taught her the first lesson. We got to the part about Joseph Smith. I quoted the first vision and the whole room was silent. You could feel the spirit testifying that it was true, that Joseph did see God and Jesus Christ. I seriously love being a missionary. These experiences have truly strengthened my testimony and I’ve only been out 2 weeks. But I love it. And knocking doors isn’t bad because I’ve already done that haha. Well I love you all and I hope that each of you have a fantastic week. Keep reading your scriptures! The Lord will bless you for it 🙂

Love,
Sister Jones
